    About Us

The “We Care” program, founded in 1991, provides free medical services for uninsured, low income Indian River County residents 18 years and older. This is made possible through our network of dedicated volunteer physicians including cardiologists, gastroenterologists, urologists, oncologists, radiologists, surgeons, and other health care professionals.

With our unwavering commitment to improving the health of our local residents, forming community collaborations and advancing the “We Care” mission, we are the organization for providing health care services to medically indigent residents in our community.

Vital services offered by physician volunteers are valued at more than $1 million annually, however, other medical needs such as short-term prescription assistance, transportation for medical appointments, cataract lenses, medical supplies and more are needed for patients who otherwise could not afford them. The We Care Foundation of Indian River, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, was formed in 2011 to help fund these needs. The Foundation’s mission is to improve continuity of care for patients in need and the “We Care” Mission is advanced with our Community’s donations and support.

Funded by an Impact 100 grant, a We Care Clinic was constructed in 2015. Located in a wing of the Gifford Health Center, the clinic is staffed with a full-time Primary Care physician and Care Coordinators with a mission to improve continuity of care – resulting in enriched quality of life.
